The purpose of your dentists list marketing program is to sell dental products and services. The success of any marketing program can be assessed by simply answering the question, "How are sales?"
It could appear to be easy for some businesses to determine the target market for their products and services, such as the target market for a dentist is people with teeth. Obviously, that is an oversimplification because there are at least 11 different dental specialties not including veterinary dentistry. Using dentistry, let us take a closer look at some ways you can define your target market.
First, ask the question, "Who specifically needs and wants what I have to offer?" From a dentists point of view, the right answer is not, "All people with teeth." In most places, all people with teeth would represent a sizable market.
For dentists, there will likely be local geographic considerations. Depending on your specialty, your physical location within a particular city may or may not matter. If you are the best provider of emergency root canals, there is no doubt that your patient will find you. On the other hand, if you are marketing dental equipment to dentist lists, your physical location may be less important.
Another consideration when defining your target market could be your market and age and income. If you are a dentist who specializes in prosthodontia, which is providing artificial substitutes-dentures, marketing to college students is probably not a great place to apply your valuable marketing resources. Again, if you operate a lab that produces dentures, you would want to market to a dentist list that has dentists who specialize in prosthodontia.
If you are still unclear, look at your Dentists List market and then define the product or service. If you like working with children, what kinds of dental services do parents want? Make a list of these services and be sure to include them in your marketing materials.
Now that you have asked yourself some dental market defining questions, write out a detailed description of your target market then be sure that your marketing program is focused on delivering your message to that market.
